Meet Our Team at Lowcountry Pianist: Claire, vocalist & guitarist

CLAIRE: MUSIC THERAPIST & PERFORMER

Claire's Background: Claire is a board-certified music therapist who has served the Lowcountry for the last 10 years providing medical music therapy services. Music has always been an important part of Claire's life; her background includes involvement in musical theater, private lessons, church choir, orchestra, band, and opera,

She has an associates degree in vocal studies from Sandhills Community College and a bachelor's degree in music therapy from Appalachian State University. She is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors Society.

Since college she has continued her education, completing advanced trainings in neurologic music therapy and NICU-music therapy. Claire is passionate about the creative arts and having a career that ties in some of her favorite qualities: music, healing, performance, mentorship, and self-care.

Q: What instrument do you play?
"Guitar, however, I'm primarily a vocalist. I like to play a little bit of everything from the 1900s to music of today. It depends on the clients and what they need. I try to keep the music that I play like the original piece, but I also love adding my own spin on it.

Q: How long have you been playing your instrument?
"I have been singing since I was 9 and playing guitar for 12 years. I have always love singing and so I started taking voice lessons as a kid and these little steps in my life are what led me to my passion and now my career!"

Q: How did you and Holly (the owner of Lowcountry Pianist & Co.) meet?
"Holly interned for me at Trident Medical Center under my music therapy program,"

Q: What are your instrument credentials?
"I went to Appalachian State in North Carolina and received my bachelor's in Music Therapy. I also have an associate's degree in voice. I'm a board-certified music therapist.

Q: What has been your favorite gift from Santa?
"My Martin guitar."
Picture
Q: What's your favorite holiday movie?
"A Muppets Christmas Carol"

Q: What's your favorite seasonal drink?
"It's a tie between eggnog and apple cider."

Q: Has your family ever had a "White Christmas"?
"Nope. This Carolina girl has not been so fortunate."

Q: What's your favorite part about the holidays?
"The smell in the air, the Christmas lights, and chilly weather."

Q: When you spend time with your family during the holidays, are there any traditions you have?
"Caroling and driving to see the Christmas lights. We especially love the Festival of Lights that is held every year."

Q: Does your family travel for the holidays or do you keep the Christmas spirit in your home?
"Ever since we've had our babies, we've kept it in Charleston, but I would love to go to North Carolina and spend it in the mountains so my family and I could have a white Christmas."

Q: What's the greatest thing about having a family for Christmas?
"Having people to share our traditions with and having the privilege to be surrounded by our loved ones."
