Andrea Quinn: Professional Cellist with Lowcountry Pianist & Company

ANDREA: PROFESSIONAL CELLIST

Andrea's Background: Andrea has been the Director of the Orchestra, Piano & IB Music at James Island Charter High School since 2007. The Piano program was established in 2008 and has grown to be the largest, most successful in the Southeast Region! A native of Miami, Florida, she has her Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of South Carolina where she was the Graduate Assistant of the USC String Project. Andrea earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a double-principal in piano and cello from the University of Miami. Andrea appears as featured solo cellist throughout the Charleston area in a multitude of settings and is known for her classical-style playing as well as her ability to improvise in a less standard setting. We are grateful that she is a part of the Lowcountry Pianist & Company team and we enjoyed getting to know her better through our recent interview!

Q: What is your favorite quote?
"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music."
- Aldous Huxley

Q: Name Your Top Favorite 3 Books / Movies:
"Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Count of Monte Cristi by Alexander Dumas
Meet Me in St. Louis (Film Starring Judy Garland)"

Q: What has been your favorite performing experience?
"All of the wedding I have performed. I find it incredibly special and humbling when a bride and groom let me in to express the most profound, beautiful, and precious moment of their lives... and set it to music."

Q: What is your role at Lowcountry Pianist & Company?
"I am a cellist (solo or group), a teammate, and always a constant professional. I get it done! 100% satisfaction is what I strive for."

Q: What are your credentials and past experiences?
"My life as a musician began with piano lessons by 7, violin by 9, and I switched to cello by 11.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Music Education from University of Miami with a double-principal in piano and cello. I also have a Masters from University of South Carolina in Strings Education and have taught a multitude of subjects and grade levels in my 17 years as a music teacher.

Most importantly, I have played weddings and special performances in ensembles for over 20 years and each one is so special, different, and lovely.

Recently, I have enjoyed playing solo cello with guitarists, harpists, pianists, and other accompanying instruments with music or with charts where I can improvise a bit. So fun!"

Q: What do you like about working at Lowcountry Pianist & Company?

"I love quite a few things. Holly is such an organized professional that is going to give her clients the quality attention they deserve.

I also love that every musician that I play with has an equal desire to bring the client's vision to fruition and they bring years of experience, training, and preparation to each performance."

Q: What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
"Hanging out with my two little dogs, Tink and Perry, resting with a good book or movie, singing in our Chancel choir at church, going out for dinner and a show with my hubby, and spending quality time with those I love most."

Q: Who inspires you?
"Many people but mostly when I see artistry, passion, dedication, and true talent."

Q: Where is your favorite place in the world?
"Wherever my love is!"
