Flutist
Flutist John Samuel enjoys a dynamic and exciting career as a sought after performer and teaching artist in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. In addition to his position as Principal Flutist with the Long Bay Symphony, John Samuel has performed orchestrally throughout the Southeast with ensembles such as the Charlotte, Charleston, and Hilton Head Symphony Orchestras.
In addition to his orchestral work, John Samuel thrives in the collaboration of performing live chamber music. He is the Artistic Director of Tasting Notes Charleston, an innovative chamber music concert series that explores the connection between music, food, and fine wine. As a passionate advocate for excellence in flute pedagogy, he works with young flutists throughout the Charleston area school systems, and maintains a thriving private studio.
He was voted ‘Best Music Instructor’ by the readers of the Charleston City Paper in the 2021 Best of Charleston contest. He is regularly engaged both as a clinician and consultant, and has given numerous masterclasses to flutists of all ages. As a guest lecturer, John Samuel frequently presents seminars on successfully building and maintaining outstanding private studios to music students at colleges and universities across the United States.
Prior to moving to South Carolina, John Samuel was the Instructor of Flute at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. He has also served as Instructor of Flute at Claflin University and visiting Flute Instructor at Coastal Carolina University. He earned his M.M. in Flute Performance at the University of Minnesota, and his B.M. in Flute Performance, from Georgia State University.
