- Ian -
Cellist
Born in Santiago, Chile, Ian began his cello studies at the Conservatory of the University of Chile before continuing his musical education at the College of Charleston under the direction of Dr. Natalia Khoma. Awarded a full scholarship, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Music there.
Ian was a prize winner in the 2010 MTNA Young Artists Competition and received the Julian Hayes and Clifford Milton Award for Excellence in Strings at the College of Charleston. He later earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Louisiana State University, where he studied with Dennis Parker.
Currently, Ian serves as principal cellist of the North Charleston Pops and frequently performs with orchestras across South Carolina. His career has included solo appearances and recitals in Chile, Canada, Austria, South Korea, and the United States — including a performance at Carnegie Hall. In addition to his work as a cellist, Ian is also an accomplished double bassist, having performed in chamber settings as well as at the Louisiana Bass Festival.
He enjoys working as a collaborative artist, often partnering with members of the Lowcountry Pianist & Company team to perform in ensembles for a variety of special events!
